Naugatuck Community Choir

Frequently Asked Questions
Contact the Naugatuck Community Choir

Who can join the Naugatuck Community Choir?

Anyone 16 years of age and older; anyone from Naugatuck or any surrounding towns. The NCC is proud to have members from Branford, Cheshire, Glastonbury, Killingworth, New Britain, Wallingford, West Haven, and the greater Naugatuck area, Prospect, Oxford and Seymour.

Do I Need Previous Choir Experience?

Here at the NCC we celebrate the joys of choral music and making lasting friendships. There are NO auditions, however at the director's discretion you may be asked to participate in another section in order to use your abilities most effectively.

When And Where Does The Choir Rehearse?

The NCC rehearses every Monday evening at Naugatuck High School. Each practice begins promptly at 7:00 pm and runs until 9:30. Socializing, monthly meetings, fellowship and refreshments will occur during break.

Does It Cost Anything To Join?

Yes, the NCC charges minimal dues, twice yearly. The cost for each season is $40.00 for first primary member and $60.00 for two members of the same household. These dues help to defray the cost of sheet music as well as the director and accompanists.

Do I Need To Know How To Read Music?

Reading music is not mandatory, however a basic knowledge of music is recommended.

How Is The Choir Supported?

The NCC is supported by membership dues, public and private philanthropists and free-will donations collected at performances. Various fund-raising events are also scheduled throughout the year: tag sales, turkey shoot, flower sales, wine tasting event, etc.

When And Where Does The Choir Perform?

The choir performs two major concerts in Naugatuck per year. Also included are performances for various civic and private organizations. In December of 2000 the choir was fortunate enough to perform at the Hartford Civic Center during the Mannheim Steamroller concert. Every May the choir participates in the 'Musical Salute To Veterans' and the list keeps on growing!

What About Holidays Or Inclement Weather?

Rehearsals on snow days will be dependant on the state of the storm and the condition of the roads. Section leaders will call members and let them know if rehearsals will be cancelled or not. If Naugatuck High School is closed, rehearsals will be held at the Salem Lutheran Church. If there is a scheduled holiday and the school is closed, rehearsals will be held at the Salem Lutheran Church.
